Gulmarg Adventure Tourism

The slopes varying between 8,000 to 11,000 feet make Gulmarg skiing the best destination for the highest ski runs in India. Gulmarg Kashmir is designated as the one and only heli-skiing resort in Asia, where even inexperienced tourists can enjoy chair lifts and ski lifts.

Gulmarg skiing is never complete without a ski ride across the valleys of Khilanmarg. The breathtaking views of the Himalayan range and the Srinagar Gulmarg valley can be best captured from Khilanmarg. The entire route to Khilanmarg is sprinkled with an aromatic aura. Pir Panjal Range in the Srinagar Gulmarg valley is one of the highest and longest ski slopes in Asia.

Alpather Lake, which flows across the Apharwat peaks, is an awesome place to visit particularly for horse riding enthusiasts. The lake remains frozen until mid-June and promises a pristine view. Baba Reshi Shrine, the holy place of Muslims is visited by many tourists. The shrine is located in the slopes below Gulmarg. The world's second highest operating cable car, the Gulmarg Gondola, with a capacity to ferry around 600 passengers per hour from Gulmarg to Kongdoori Mountain and back, is also one of the wonder of this place.

The best time for Gulmarg tourism is throughout the year though ski in Gulmarg is possible only during November to February. The extreme terrain combined with the torrential snowfall turn Gulmarg into one the best snow destinations in the world.


The nearest airport is Srinagar (57 kms) and Jammu (305 kms) is the nearest railhead. Gulmarg is well connected by road from Srinagar and is only an hour drive via the Tangmarg route. Accommodation is available in all ranges, though it is extremely difficult to find a decent accommodation during the peak season unless booked fairly in advance.

The Kashmiri cuisine is pre-dominantly a non-vegetarian fare with Rogan Josh being the most famous traditional dish. You can shop for mats and carpets in Gulmarg and other small handicraft items.
