Lucknow Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow city is the capital of Uttar Pradesh, one of the largest states of India. Lucknow UP, known as the city of Nawabs, is famous all over the world for Mughalai and Awadhi cuisines. Lucknow rose to fame when it was made the capital city of Awadh by Nawab Asaf-ud-Dowlah. Under his reign, Lucknow got its enduring legacy and developed into a powerhouse of architecture. The Bara Imambara, the Chhota Imambara, and the Roomi Darwaza are some of the architectural wonders built during the Nawab rule.
The aura and grandeur of Lucknow has long been a fascination for many film-makers and many famous Hindi movies had Lucknow as the backdrop and were shot extensively at the grand Havelis. Mere Mehboob, Chaudhvin Ka Chand and Pakeezah were a few of such movies.

Today, Lucknow city is a major market and a center for trade in North India with many producers of goods setting up their hub in this wonderful city. Lucknow UP has traditionally been a market for melons, mangoes and grains. In earlier days, Lucknow was known as the granary of the Awadh region.

Some of the famous places of interest in Lucknow city include the Bhool Bhulaiyya and Bouli in Bara Imambara, the Chattar Manzil (today the headquarters of Central Drug Research Institute), UP State Museum, Lucknow Zoo, Dilkusha, Planetarium, Ambedkar Memorial, Baradari and Ram Krishna Math. The Charbagh Railway Station in Lucknow is one of the architectural wonders built during the British era. The distinctive domes, pillars and arches in Charbagh make it a wonderful structure.

A visit to Lucknow is never complete without a stroll at some of the most famous parks. Some of the large and famous Lucknow parks include Ambedkar Memorial and Lohia park in Gomti Nagar, Dilkusha Park, Swarn Jayanti Park and Aurobindo Park in Indiranagar, Globe Park, Mukherjee Phuhaar, Begum Hazrat Mahal Park, Haathi Park, and Neebu Park. The National Botanical Garden at Sikandarbagh on the banks of river Gomti is the best of all the Lucknow parks.
Most of the visitors to Lucknow never get tired of praising about Lucknow cuisine which can linger over your taste buds and get etched in your memory. Tunday Kebab with various biryani combos is one of the best cuisines of Lucknow. There are other famous varieties of kebabs such as Galawati Kebabs, Kakori Kebabs Boti Kababs, Shami Kebabs, Patili-ke-Kababs, Seekh Kababs and Ghutwa Kababs.

One of the best aspects about Lucknow is famed Lucknowi Kurtas and sarees known for its intricate thread embroidery. The traditional Lucknowi items can be purchased for reasonable prices at the Chowks and Nakhas of old Lucknow. Kapoorthala and Alambagh are also famous markets while Aminabad is a quaint market. Hazratganj is for upscale shoppers.

Being a capital city, Lucknow has an airport and a railway station of the same. The city is well-connected through National Highways with New Delhi, Jaipur, Gwalior, Singrauli, Faridabad, Bharatpur, Gurgaon and Dausa.
