12 jyotirlingas in India: Go for spiritual journeys to sanctify the soul

The word 'jyotirlinga' literally translates into shrine of light! It is a shrine or linga of Lord Shiva and there are 12 jyotirlingas in India sprawled over various towns in all directions! So, if you are a Shiva devotee, then you must pay a visit to these holy shrines which are considered extremely devout and pious.

They are also important from the point of mythology! The legend has it that Lord Shiva appeared in the form of light at the sites where these shrines are situated. It is also said that once a person reaches a certain higher level of spiritualism (through devotion or meditation), then he can experience light emanating out of these shrines.
The jyotirlingas are situated in each point of the country- in west, in north, in east as well as in down south in Rameshwaram.
